Mount Bromo is an active volcano located in East Java. This mountain is not the biggest one yet amazing. The Mount Bromo is not only well-known among local people, but also among International tourist. There are some spots in Mount Bromo that can be visited. However, we cannot drive our car if it's not supported by 4WD system. We don't need to worry about it since there are many Land Cruisers being rented to take you everywhere around the site.
I went there around January and it is really cloudy. I visited Penanjakan where I (should) see the sunrise yet it was really cloudy and I found nothing. Next stop is Mount Batok, Sea of Sand (Segara Wedi) and Savannah. Fortunately I can enjoy all of them.
Not too far from the Mount Bromo, we can see a small temple where the Hindus praying. Most of the people around this mountain are Hindu and belong to a tribe called "Tengger". This tribe is still doing several cultural ritual as a part of their life. The biggest ritual is Kasadha (the tenth) where the people will throw some agricultural products to the crater. It is said that this ritual has been done ages since Roro Anteng and Joko Seger (the ancestors) made a promise to sacrifice one of their children to Mount Bromo. Their names are also the where the name Tengger was inferred. To commemorate this phenomenon, nowadays, Tengger people are still doing this ritual.
