Halal Restaurants in Southampton, UK

Eating halal food is obligatory for every Muslim. Being away from home is a new challenge for every Muslim since they cannot find "what they need as a Muslim" easily. In the UK, for instance, it is not easy to find a halal restaurant. Therefore, I will show you some halal restaurant in the UK, especially Southampton where I am living now. 

Halal Restaurants in Southampton

1. Uni Kebab
Uni Kebab is one of the most favourite restaurants for students in Southampton which provides Turkish meal. The location which is quite near with the campus makes it as a preferable option for students, especially for Asian students. Asian foods are really tasteful and full of spices, that's why Uni Kebab can be an option since it has a strong taste with the herbs and spices. Besides the food, the staffs there are so friendly. Sometimes, they greet us with our languages. The place is really homey and comfortable. Hope you'll have good food, good time and good conversation with your friends in Uni Kebab.

2. Diego's 

For you who likes hot and spicy food, this place is the best choice. This Portuguese restaurant has various dishes with its level of spiciness. I prefer the "VERY HOT" level for my meal, what about you? This restaurant's signature is grilled food, so try to be patient when you decide to have your lunch or dinner here :) Diego has an egg tart too, I forgot the names in Portuguese, but I'm sure it is an egg tart LoL. You can find this restaurant in the Southampton city centre.

3. Pepe's Piri Piri
This one is also serving Portuguese food with affordable price. If you are a student, it might be better for you to try this one because the food here is cheaper than Diego's. It serves spicy rice and grilled chicken, it also has wrap and pitta. The place is really cozy and easy to find.

4. Persian Paradise

As it is implied in its name, this restaurant provides tasty Persian food. The service is so good and the food is good too. The restaurant is quite spacious so you can go there to have a meeting with your friends :) (I went there with around 9 friends of mine, LoL). This restaurant has safron rice, lambs, chicken, and many more choices of dishes.

5. Star Chicken
Do you like fried chicken or pizza? Star chicken will serve you. Star chicken is also located near the University of Southampton Highfield Campus. I like its pizza, I may say that it is better than my country's LoL. However, this restaurant is famous with its cheap chicken meal, you can have a complete meal along with drinks for only 3 - 6 pounds depending on your choices. Its chilli and garlic sauce are the best among halal restaurant in Southampton. Although the place is quite small, it's still popular among the students because of the price and the food.

6. Hungry House Takeaways
Hungry House takeaways is a platform to find the restaurant that you need. You can find the restaurant under the HALAL category to find the halal restaurants near you. It is really convenient to use this platform :)

[Phonology] Phonetics

Di post sebelumnya sudah dibahas tentang phonology yang merupakan cabang dari linguistics. Nah, sekarang waktunya membahas tentang phonetics yang mana merupakan cabang dari phonology. Cabang bercabang lah ini judulnya :D

Sepertii yang sudah disampaikan bahwa phonetics adalah ilmu tentang segala jenis possible speech sound, bisa juga dikatakan sebagai scientific study of speech. (maafkan bahasa yang campur-campur ya :D ) Dalam cakupannya, banyak hal yang perlu kita ketahui dalam cabang ilmu ini, antara lain:

1. Bagaimana speech sounds diproduksi
2. Bagaimana speech sounds digunakan dalam ujaran
3. Bagaimana kita dapat menuliskan speech sounds dalam simbol-simbol
4. Bagaimana kita dapat membedakan dan mengenali suara yang berbeda

Phonetics sendiri dibagi lagi menjadi 3 cabang:
1. Articulatory phonetics 
Mempelajari tentang bagaimana vocal organs membantu memproduksi speech sounds. Di sini, kita akan mengerti bagaimana menggunakan organ kita untuk memproduksi suara yang tepat. Organ yang terlibat di sini antara lain lidah, tenggorokan, rahang, gigi, bibir, dan beberapa bagian mulut lainnya. Dengan melakukan kombinasi yang tepat antar organ tersebut, kita akan mampu menghasilkan pelafalan suatu huruf atau kata dengan tepat.

2. Acoustic phonetics 
Mempelajari tentang physical properties seperti frekuensi dari getaran yang diakibatkan oleh suara yang diproduksi, serta intensitas seperti loudness dari produksi suara itu sendiri. Pada dasarnya cakupan acoustic phonetics ini lebih erat kaitannya dengan bidang keilmuan lain seperti matematika, fisika, fisiologi, psikologi dan bidang lainnya.

3. Auditory phonetics 
Mempelajari tentang bagaimana kita mengartikan atau mempersepsikan speech sounds tersebut. Yang dimaksud dengan mengartikan di sini adalah mengartikan sinyal yang ditangkap oleh otak berupa suara sehingga kita dapat membedakan suara satu dengan lainnya mealui proses tersebut. Dalam hal ini, kita memerlukan latihan yang cukup untuk dapat mencapai tingkat di mana kita, dengan mudah, mampu membedakan suara yang ditangkap oleh telinga kita.
